is a meaningful and much needed pastoral ministry of caring for those hospitalized, in nursing homes, or confined to private homes. The purpose of the ministry is to show the genuine care and concern of our faith community to the sick and shut-ins and to provide the opportunity to pray with others and to receive the Eucharist.
As an extension of the compassionate ministry of Jesus, ministers of care go forth from the Eucharistic celebration so that they may share the Word of God and Holy Communion with those who are sick and cannot attend Sunday Mass. When doors are locked and keys are taken away, the homebound can still bask in the Real Presence and unite in a most intimate, incarnational way with our dear Jesus.
In bringing Communion to the sick and homebound, our St. Mark's Ministers represent Christ and manifest faith and charity on behalf of the whole community toward those who cannot be present with us at the Eucharist. For the sick, the reception of Communion is not only a privilege but also a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian community for its members who are ill.
